The paperwork
Which visa?
To bring your own work to Taiwan, you need the right to live here and to work without a local employer. For most people reading this, that's the Employment Gold Card.
- Employment Gold Card
-
Residence and an open work permit in one card, for one to three years, with no sponsor. Work remotely, run your own company, freelance. After three years you can apply for permanent residency. (source)
You qualify through one of twelve fields. In some of them, a salary of NT$160,000 a month is enough. (source)
- Digital nomad visa
-
For remote workers from visa-exempt countries. It's visitor status, not residence. You need an income of at least US$40,000 a year (US$20,000 if you're 20 to 29), savings and international health insurance. (source)
- Employer work permit
-
A Taiwanese employer sponsors you. Your stay is tied to that job. (Talent Taiwan)
